Services on the Harbour Line were affected due to a technical snag with the overhead equipment (OHE) on Tuesday morning. Nearly 26 trains were cancelled and trains ran around 45 minutes late on an average during the peak hours. According to officials, the insulator of the OHE on a local bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) developed a snag at 7.15 a.m. between Wadala and Sewri bringing the train to a halt. Engineers reached the spot around 7.30 a.m. and the matter was resolved within 10 minutes after which services resumed.
Trains were bunched up from Wadala to Vashi leading to delays and cancellation of services to CSMT and Andheri. Commuters had to walk on tracks as trains were stalled mid-section. As services got cancelled, platforms became overcrowded. Many commuters vented their frustration on social media by sharing photos and videos. Akshay Gune, a commuter, tweeted, “We are struck at Chunabhatti station since the past 45 mins. Pathetic waste of productive time.” Subhash Gupta, president of Rail Yatri Parishad said the snag was crippling. “As it was a holiday for many, there were several families travelling other than the usual office-going crowd. This compounded the situation,” he said.
